So the guitar has been prised away from the protective dust it has
collected on the stand, and my fingers are being forced into unaccustomed
positions on the left side and ripped to pieces on the right. Yes preparations have started for the “Championing Rotherham” Concert
starring Roy Bailey and Ray Hearne + a Galaxy of local talent on the 25th
March at Rotherham Trades. The tickets are now available from the Trades
bar and various members of the Rotherham Against the Cuts Committee. Full Waged £10 Low Waged £6
and unwaged £3. This is fund
raiser to help combat the huge sums of money being imported into Rotherham in
support of the Kippers Election Campaign.

All the artists are donating their time to the cause, so we hope to see

that RAE are providing support to this event.
It’s been a while again so best as I can I’ll try to remember what
needs to be reported.
There was a good turnout of Rotherham mods to support the Jam’d Live at The Trades. It was good to be back in action after the
Winter break. Following Championing
Rotherham, our next event is on the 4th April when back by huge
demand are Lovehunter who are the
best Whitesnake Tribute Band in the Universe.
This is bound to be another sell out – tickets will be available from
all the normal Agents soon and are already on sell Online HERE
Some will have noted that we have changed the title of the bi-weekly
Saturday Youth Music and Poetry sessions.
Instead of Auditions we are calling it Jam & Slam (which sounds as if doughnuts are involved
somehow). At the last session we had
some new people join in which was great to see.
Everyone is welcome. On the
serious side of things the group started to get to work on lyric writing and
fitting to classic music forms like twelve bar blues. Home work was set!!! Yikes.
Everyone is going away to put new lyrics to one of their
Besides listening to the results of the homework – we will be listening
to some bass and drum work, and listening to how it can enhance basic
accompaniments. That’s on the 14th
March at MyPlace. We will also be
having a workshop on Comic Song Writing in the very near future. On 21st March Swansong Acoustic will be popping in to talk about life on the road for a local Band and play a few songs.
In April we hope to include Photography as part of the Saturday offer
to young people.
We are still looking to build personal and group material that can be
recorded and also performed at the main Festivals in Rotherham over the
Summer.

We welcome a new face to RAE
Jemma Thorpe. Jemma will be an
invaluable voluntary asset to RAE and is already at work considering our
Commercial Offer. Expect more additions
to the team over the coming weeks.
We are totally re-building our Volunteer team following all the
destruction of last year. The Volunteer
page on the Web Site will soon be updated, but you can discover a basic idea
from the existing words HERE We need Volunteers like never before
with so much planned for 2015.
The Main Line Up for Slamfest 1
4/5 July is set details HERE We’re aware that Bands and venues are not
happy that we have not opened the event as wide around Rotherham as has been
our practice in previous years. We’re
sorry. In each year we have had at least
one venue that has caused us problems because of equipment or even Bands
pulling out without notice. We are
keeping things as simple as possible in 2015.
We will welcome all venues / Bands, and they can all be included in the
Festival, but they must provide all PA and backline for Bands. We will provide assistance and all the
publicity but that is all.
The same applies to Slamfest2 on the 22nd August.
That all said stay tuned for news as our Volunteer base improves.
I’m told that ticket sales for The
Secret History of Cake a Tair play and production with help from the Arts
Council are going well. 25 / 26 March at
The Old Market Gallery and 2nd April at RCAT. Please show your support for this locally
written and produced work, which I am reliably informed is not quite what the
title suggests and very funny.
On 11th March there is what promises to be a fantastic ROAR talk at the Westgate Art Centre
starting 4:30pm with Leigh de Vries described as a musician and industrial
artist. It’s open to all Rotherham
artists and whoever might have an interest.
If you’re not a Member of ROAR then it’s also a chance to find out more.
Also at the ROAR Art Space on Westgate is the highly entertaining and
noise making African Drumming classes. These take place every Tuesday with
youngsters 5 – 6 pm and adults 6 – 7pm.

I’m told that the new Open Mic at the Monkwood was a great success with
much jamming going on. Why not pop
along to the couple of sessions on the 4th and 25th
March. Should be great fun.
Heads up to a special Market at
the Imperial Building on Corporation Street on Sunday 8th
March. I believe this is the second one
to be held. They really help local
crafters, artists and Imperial Retailers to survive. I’m told that there will be some light
music.
It’s the first week of the month coming up when I would normally be
pointing you towards the Play On
session. Unfortunately session still
has not found a new home having lost their place at The Rutland in
Sheffield. While I’ve not been able to
get across for a couple of years I have a great infirmity with Play On, it
being the home session of Myke Masher and it’s sad to see it struggling to find
a home for their monthly get together.
But the ROMPers will be in
action at The Bridge. Always a lively
evening of performance verse.
Advanced warning that ROMP2
will be gathering on 11th March at The New York Tavern., Sheffield
Road, Rothehram.
The Concertina Club in Mexborough will be hosting the Cosy Cinema on Thursday. This month’s offering is Clockwork Orange , starts 7:45pm
The Cutlers Sunday afternoon
music is turning into must go. On
the 8th March The Mugshots will be hosting and on 15th
it’s Ryan + talented Tom Kilner in acoustic mode. Make a note in the Diary for the 5th
April when The Sons of El Roacho
will be presenting the afternoon session.
Apparently you can see a little construction work going on out the back
of The Cutlers. A canvas screen is being
put in place so as to allow outside music.
Watch out for news of special concert which includes a European Band
coming up soon. Our Mick knows how to
book them.
Closing in on Easter means that it’s time to collate a New Word
Pit. Word Pit can be found on the
Acoustic Rotherham Web Site, and features the best of local poets. If you wield a mean pen then we want to hear
